CASE - Center for Social and Economic Research in cooperation with the Centre of European Policy Studies (CEPS) is pleased to invite you to the ENEPO Final Conference on "The European Union (EU) Eastern Neighborhood: Economic Challenges Ahead"  on 18 March 2009 at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels.

The conference focuses on the future economic challenges to be faced by the NIS and on the policies that can foster their economic and institutional development as well as their closer integration with the EU. ENEPO - EU Eastern Neighborhood: Economic Potential and Future Development is a specific targeted research project funded by the 6th Framework Programme of the European Union. Its main objective is to examine the potential of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) to upgrade the relations between the enlarged EU and the new independent states (NIS) of the former USSR in the spheres of trade, investment, labour movement and technical cooperation, in addition to speeding up economic and governance reforms in the NIS, with special attention given to mutual interdependence between these cooperation areas.

The Center for Social and Economic Research -CASE Ukraine- and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) are presenting the results of the research conducted under ENEPO project - EU Eastern Neighbourhood: Economic Potential and Future Development project.  ENEPO is implemented under and financially supported by the EU's Sixth Framework Programme.

The project seeks to provide analyses of the different aspects of the European Union's relationships with its Eastern neighbours.  The research centers on key areas, such as the development gap, trade relations, energy policy, potential labour migration, and institutional harmonization, etc.

From 2005, the project has been implemented by a consortium of eleven partner institutes and led by the Warsaw-based Center for Social and Economic Research.  This seminar is the first in a series of regional seminars that will be organized in Russia, Moldova, Georgia, and Kyrgyzstan.  A final conference is to be held in Brussels on 2 March 2009.

The Kyiv seminar will focus on issues of regional inequality and convergence, and the institutional harmonization aspects of European integration, and feature NUPI and CASE Ukraine experts.

Representatives of the  European Commission, the World Bank, UNDP, the Ministry of Economy, member of the diplomatic community, as well as experts of leading Ukrainian think tanks are expected to attend.
